A handsome early hardcover edition of Aldous Huxley’s The Perennial Philosophy, published by Harper & Brothers in 1945. One of Huxley’s major works of nonfiction, the book examines the philosophical and mystical ideas Huxley believed recur across the world’s great religious traditions, drawing from Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, and other Eastern and Western traditions. The work was originally published in the United States by Harper & Brothers in 1945.
Bound in the publisher’s distinctive red cloth with gilt horizontal bands and black-and-gilt title panels to the front board and spine. This copy presents particularly well: the red cloth remains bright, the gilt decoration is strong, the binding appears tight and square, and the interior is clean with expected light age toning. No dust jacket. Overall, a very attractive vintage copy of an important Huxley title.
