We’re most interested in well-kept, carefully chosen collections that reflect engaged, literate readers, rather than bulk accumulations of heavily worn or low-quality titles. Condition and content both matter.

Estate & Library Purchases
Buying books directly from estates is one of the most important parts of what we do. Our shelves are filled with thoughtfully selected books that have come from remarkable personal libraries, and we're always looking for the next great collection.
We regularly work with: families settling estates, estate planners and attorneys, estate sale professionals, trust officers, realtors, professional organizers, individuals who are downsizing or relocating
We understand that these situations are often personal and time-sensitive. We strive to make the process straightforward, respectful, and fair.
Working Together
Rather than asking you to box up hundreds—or thousands—of books, we'll come to your library.
Depending on the size and significance of the collection, we're happy to travel up to 500 miles from Bend, Oregon to provide a complimentary library evaluation and discuss the best path forward.
If your library is a good fit for Big Story Bookstore, we'll provide a fair offer based on our evaluation and pay cash or direct transfer at the time of purchase. There are no consignment arrangements or delayed payments—just a straightforward, transparent process with time to answer your questions.
Not every library is a fit for purchase, and sometimes the goal isn't selling at all—it's simply finding a good home for a lifetime of books. We also gratefully accept donations of books in good condition, giving meaningful books a second life while supporting an independent bookstore.
What We're Looking For
We're especially interested in well-cared-for collections built over many years, including collectible books, scholarly libraries, and thoughtfully curated personal collections.
Above all, we value thoughtfully curated libraries featuring respected authors, reputable publishers, and books with lasting literary, cultural, or scholarly significance.
