A wonderfully nostalgic four-volume vintage paperback collection of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and complete The Lord of the Rings trilogy, published by Ballantine Books in its Special Silver Jubilee Edition during the early 1980s.
Featuring the memorable illustrated covers by fantasy artist Darrell K. Sweet, these editions are distinguished by their vibrant orange, blue, green, and red wrappers, matching spine designs, and striking yellow-stained page edges. Together, the four books form an especially attractive and colorful vintage Tolkien collection.
The set includes The Hobbit (1984 eighth printing), The Fellowship of the Ring (1983 seventy-fourth printing), The Two Towers (1984 first printing of this Ballantine edition), and The Return of the King (1984 seventy-third printing).
All four volumes retain their original colorful covers and yellow page edges, with light-to-moderate surface rubbing, minor edge and corner wear, and some age-related toning. The books present attractively together, with particularly appealing cover artwork and matching vintage design.
An excellent addition to a Tolkien collection, and a nostalgic example of the fantasy paperbacks that introduced generations of readers to Middle-earth.
