Scarce first edition of Shukokai Karate Kata by Thos. M. Morris, published in 1982 by Paul H. Crompton Ltd. The copyright page states “First Edition 1982” and gives ISBN 0-901764-52-3. Morris was a 6th Dan and senior Shukokai instructor, and this volume was produced as a detailed technical guide to the style’s kata curriculum.
The book covers a broad range of Shukokai kata, including the Pinan series, Saifa, Kururunfa, Seipai, Annanko, Jiin, Bassai Dai, Tensho, Seienchin, Matsukaze, Sochin, Seiryu and Kosokun Shiho, with photographic instruction and interpretation/bunkai material. Contemporary reader descriptions specifically note that the book illustrates the movements extensively and is considered particularly useful to serious Shukokai practitioners and instructors.
This copy is especially desirable because it retains the original black pictorial dust jacket and the original brown protective slipcase/box, in addition to the blue cloth hardcover beneath. The book itself appears very clean, with bright gilt lettering and a strong binding. The dust jacket shows only modest handling and edge wear, while the slipcase has some age-related spotting and surface wear. Overall, this is a notably complete and attractive example of a martial-arts title that is genuinely difficult to find.
