A beautifully produced Folio Society edition of Arkady & Boris Strugatsky’s Roadside Picnic, one of the landmark works of Soviet science fiction and the novel that inspired Andrei Tarkovsky’s Stalker. Set in the aftermath of an unexplained extraterrestrial visitation, the novel follows “stalkers” who illegally enter mysterious Zones left behind by the visitors in search of strange and dangerous artifacts.

This deluxe edition features Olena Bormashenko’s English translation, a foreword by Ursula K. Le Guin, an afterword by Boris Strugatsky, and distinctive artwork and design by acclaimed artist Dave McKean. The volume is bound in green cloth with dramatic metallic and pictorial decoration, illustrated endpapers, striking decorated page edges, and a coordinating illustrated slipcase. Includes seven double-page color illustrations, including a foldout.

This copy is the third printing, 2025, and is the standard Folio Society hardcover edition rather than the signed and numbered limited edition.

Near Fine to Fine. Appears very lightly handled, with clean boards, bright decoration, tight binding, clean interior pages, and exceptionally well-preserved illustrated page edges. Matching slipcase is also in excellent condition with only minimal evidence of handling.
