Charles Bukowski’s Post Office, his acclaimed first novel, originally published by Black Sparrow Press in 1971. Drawing heavily from Bukowski’s own years working for the U.S. Postal Service, the novel introduced his alter ego Henry Chinaski and established the stripped-down, darkly comic style that would define much of his fiction.

This is the 40th printing of the Black Sparrow Press hardcover edition, published in Santa Rosa, California. It features the distinctive Black Sparrow design with pale blue illustrated paper-covered boards, black cloth spine, and printed spine label. Unlike the much more common paperback editions, Black Sparrow hardcovers of Bukowski’s major works have become increasingly collectible.

The book remains in very good condition. The binding is firm and the interior is clean, with light age toning to the page edges. The boards show light shelf wear, minor edge wear and some age-related discoloration, particularly along the lower edges. No major damage is present. Includes the original clear plastic protective cover.
