An uncommon original 1973 Capra Press edition of Loba, Part 1 by Diane di Prima, an influential poet of the Beat Generation and a central figure in American countercultural literature.
Published in Santa Barbara as number ten in the Yes! Capra Chapbook Series, this early installment of Loba presents selections from di Prima's evolving feminist epic, a visionary poetic exploration of feminine identity, mythology, spirituality, transformation, and the archetype of the she-wolf. The work would eventually become one of di Prima's most celebrated literary achievements.
This beautifully designed chapbook features its original patterned peach wrappers, distinctive red circular cover illustration, and striking black-and-white artwork by Josie Grant. The interior also includes a photograph of di Prima by Robert Durand.
An exceptionally attractive vintage copy, with clean, vibrant wrappers, sharp edges, a well-preserved spine, and fresh interior pages. Only minimal evidence of handling is visible. A wonderful early publication from the development of Loba, particularly appealing to collectors of Beat poetry, feminist literature, and independent small-press publishing.
