A handsome Easton Press Collector’s Edition of Keeping Faith: Memoirs of a President, personally signed by President Jimmy Carter on the publisher’s specially bound signature page. Originally published in 1982, Keeping Faithis Carter’s substantial memoir of his presidency, covering his path to the White House and the major domestic and international events of his administration, including the Camp David Accords and Middle East peace negotiations, the Iran hostage crisis, energy policy, relations with Congress, human rights, and his dealings with world leaders. Easton Press confirms this edition was issued in genuine leather with 22-karat gold accents, gilded page edges, moiré endpapers, a satin ribbon marker, archival paper, and Smyth-sewn construction.
This copy is bound in dark blue leather, richly decorated in gilt with a repeating star motif to the boards and additional gilt decoration and raised bands along the spine. The text block is finished with all edges gilt, and the volume retains its sewn-in ribbon marker. Most importantly, the dedicated signature page states, “This specially bound Easton Press Collector’s Edition is signed by President Jimmy Carter,” beneath which appears Carter’s large original signature in blue ink.
Condition: Overall excellent condition, with clean, attractive leather boards, bright gilt decoration and exceptionally clean interiors. There is slight binding separation visible at the top of the text block and one small scratch to the upper gilt page edge, both shown in the photographs. Otherwise the book presents beautifully, with only minimal evidence of handling.
