A striking Folio Society collector’s edition bringing together two of Philip K. Dick’s most celebrated science-fiction novels, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and A Scanner Darkly, in an unusual tête-bêche binding. Rather than presenting the novels sequentially, each has its own front cover and orientation - the reader finishes one novel, turns the entire book upside down, and begins the other from the opposite end.

Originally issued by the Folio Society in 2017, this copy is the third printing, 2021, as shown on both copyright pages.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Philip K. Dick’s 1968 dystopian classic and the literary basis for Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, is illustrated by Chris Skinner, whose futuristic, noir-influenced artwork complements the novel’s vision of artificial humanity and a decaying postwar world. A Scanner Darkly, Dick’s dark and deeply personal exploration of drugs, surveillance, identity and paranoia, is illustrated by Andrew Archer, using vivid, hallucinatory imagery appropriate to the novel’s fractured reality. The two artistic approaches meet in a collaborative double-page illustration at the center of the volume.

The book contains 488 pages with 12 full-page color illustrations plus a double-page collaborative illustration. It is quarter-bound in bright green blocked cloth with illustrated paper sides and is housed in its original red slipcase. The contrasting covers -the biomechanical sheep on one side and fragmented human portrait on the other - make the reversible construction immediately apparent.

Excellent / Near Fine. The book presents extremely well, with bright, clean boards and spine, crisp pages, strong binding and vibrant illustrations. The original red slipcase is present and shows only light handling/storage wear visible in the photographs.
